Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to commission/recommission plant
   • Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation required to commission/recommission plant
   • Identify, address and report potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures according to workplace procedures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work activity
   • Access, interpret, confirm and apply design process principles
   • Identify and confirm the purpose of the plant and equipment
   • Confirm the design meets the identified purpose
2. Participate in hazard and operability studies
   • Identify and confirm existing process and procedures that apply to hazard and operability studies
   • Participate in a hazard and operability study
   • Undertake investigations following hazard study
   • Record and process written reports on findings according to workplace procedures
3. Participate in acceptance of plant/equipment
   • Undertake pre-commissioning activities
   • Complete pre-commissioning documentation according to workplace procedures
   • Identify, record and report problems or non-conformances to relevant personnel
4. Conduct test runs/trials
   • Conduct trials/test runs according to workplace procedures
   • Record performance data and process written reports according to workplace procedures
5. Evaluate results and identify modifications
   • Identify and record modifications and recommended improvements
   • Complete written documentation and communicate to relevant personnel according to workplace procedures

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

commission/recommission plant on at least two occasions, including:

contributing to the design of plant and/or equipment

participating in hazard and operability studies

conducting test runs and trials

evaluating test results and identifying modifications

documenting and reporting on findings

managing information

accessing, interpreting and applying technical and safety information

keeping records of plant and equipment

complying with environmental requirements

analysing tasks

providing information, instruction, training and supervision

proposing practical recommendations for identified key issues

communicating findings.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant documentation, policies and procedures and confirm that the work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for commissioning/recommissioning plant

work effectively with others to commission/recommission plant in a way that meets all required outcomes

communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions and to determine coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and documentation required to commission/recommission plant, including:

hazard and risk identification and management

statutory compliance

work health and safety

environmental issues

policy management

equipment maintenance

principles and techniques for:

problem solving, report writing and diagnostic/fault finding

identifying relevant hazards and emergencies

techniques for coordinating and communicating job activities with others.
